My partner and I have a child overseas, can the family join us?

Depending on your visa type, your partner and dependent children can often apply for visas that allow them to live in New Zealand with you. For many work visa holders, a partner may be eligible for an open work visa, and dependent children for visitor or student visas, if you meet the requirements set out in Immigration New Zealand's instructions, which include an income or job requirement, a relationship test and proof that your child is a dependent, and health and character checks. Children of school age might attend school under a student visa or free education if eligible.
