Do I really need a licensed immigration adviser?
- 22.08.2026
I have significant savings and would like to move to New Zealand with my family by making an investment. Some people talk about golden visas, but I am not sure what is available or how it works. What should I know?
New Zealand has an investor pathway, the Active Investor Plus visa, which offers a resident visa to people who invest a required minimum amount in eligible New Zealand investments, subject to a points system, with different tiers depending on the amount and type of investment, such as growth or balanced categories. It requires you to keep the investment for a specified period, meet health and character criteria, and show that funds come from a lawful source. The rules, including minimum investment amounts and English or time-in-country requirements, have changed since it was introduced, so check the current settings on Immigration New Zealand's website. You also need to consider the Overseas Investment Act 2005 if you intend to buy land or business assets, and seek tax advice before moving.
