What is an Accredited Employer Work Visa?
- 01.07.2026
I plan a short trip to New Zealand for a family holiday and I do not know whether I need a visa or something else. I also might do some remote work from my laptop for my overseas employer. What are the entry requirements?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of visa waiver countries can travel to New Zealand without a visa, but must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority and pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy before travelling. Citizens of other countries generally need a visitor visa. Visitors are permitted to stay for a limited time, commonly up to three months for visa waiver travellers, and cannot work for a New Zealand employer. Remote work for an overseas employer is a grey area, but incidental remote work is generally tolerated for short visits, though there are limits, and Immigration New Zealand's guidance emphasises that visitors must not do work that competes with local workers. Check the Immigration New Zealand website for the requirements applicable to your passport and be honest at the border.
