I received a takedown notice for a video, what should I do?

Read the notice carefully to identify the work claimed, the alleged infringement and the deadlines. In New Zealand, the Copyright Act 1994 includes a process for notices to internet service providers about infringing file sharing, and many platforms apply their own notice-and-counter-notice procedures, so the exact steps depend on the platform. If you believe that your use is lawful, for example because it is fair dealing, licensed or your own work, you can usually submit a counter-notice explaining why, but be aware that a false claim can have consequences. If you are unsure, remove the disputed part and seek legal advice, especially if the claim is from a large rights holder. Keep copies of your licences, source files and correspondence.
