Lender approved a loan far beyond what I could afford

I paid a repairer a hefty amount to fix my dishwasher. It broke down again within days, and the repairer said the new fault was unrelated and wanted another call-out fee. I feel the job was done poorly. Do I have any rights when the goods are not the problem but the service is?
Yes, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies to services as well as goods. A service provider must carry out the service with reasonable care and skill, must complete it within a reasonable time if no time was agreed, and must charge a reasonable price if none was fixed in advance. If the same fault reappears shortly after the repair, that suggests the work may not have met the standard, but the repairer might show the new problem is genuinely different. Ask for the job sheet and get a second opinion from another repairer in writing. If the work was substandard, you can require the repairer to remedy it at no extra charge, or claim the reasonable cost of having it fixed elsewhere. The Disputes Tribunal is the usual forum if agreement cannot be reached.
