A free trial quietly turned into a costly monthly subscription

I bought a handbag from a person on an online marketplace who described it as authentic, with a receipt photo. When it arrived it was clearly a fake. The seller now says they bought it in good faith and is not offering a refund. Do I have any way to recover my money?
You have a good prospect of recovery. If the seller stated the bag was authentic and that statement was untrue, it is a misrepresentation, and the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017 lets you cancel the contract and claim back what you paid, even if the seller believed it was genuine. If the seller regularly sells goods this way, they may be in trade and the Fair Trading Act 1986 and the Consumer Guarantees Act may apply as well, including the guarantee that goods match their description. Take screenshots of the listing, your messages and payment details before anything is deleted. Report the listing to the platform and use any buyer protection scheme it offers. If that fails, a Disputes Tribunal claim is inexpensive and does not require a lawyer.
